Easy guest access and energy management in the Home app

iOS 18 introduces guest access to the Home app, allowing guests to control locks, garage doors and alarm systems. Users can schedule access and view activity history for guests. In addition, front doors can be unlocked automatically when approached with an iPhone.

The Home app also helps users understand and manage their electricity consumption in partnership with electricity providers, first out being Pacific Gas & Electric Company in California. Authorized users can view electricity consumption directly in the Home app.

New Functionality for the Home App and Apple TV

Robot vacuums are now compatible with the Home app and can be included in automations and scenes, as well as controlled with Siri. AirPlay gets support for spatial audio, including Dolby Atmos, providing an immersive audio experience when streaming from iPhone and iPad to HomePod and other compatible audio devices.

These updates demonstrate Apple's continued commitment to improving the user experience and functionality of the smart home.

Shared Music Experience with SharePlay

With SharePlay and Apple Music, users can now share control of the music played from HomePod and HomePod mini. By holding an iPhone close to another iPhone or scanning a QR code, you can add songs to the playlist and control playback, even without an Apple Music subscription.

Improved FaceTime with tvOS 18

tvOS 18 introduces new FaceTime updates with Continuity Camera, making it easier to use FaceTime on the largest screen in your home. The novelty of live captioning in English in the United States and Canada allows users to read what is being said during a FaceTime call.

Apple Fitness+ New Design

Apple Fitness+ has been redesigned in tvOS 18 to help users navigate the extensive workout library. The updates include a custom “For You” section, “Explore” and “Library” departments, improved search features and awards.
