Recently, Aqara released its first Thread device, the Door and Window Sensor P2. The device does not need an additional hub, which distinguishes it from most previous Aqara devices. The sensor is well made and has an impressively fast response time. However, the dimensions of 77 × 22 × 22 mm make it larger than previous Zigbee models from Aqara. The P2 sensor uses Thread technology, which provides low power consumption and longer range. One advantage of this is that a separate Aqara Hub is not required; instead, existing devices such as the Apple TV or HomePod can act as a border-router. The sensor integrates quickly and easily with HomeKit and can be used for various purposes such as window, garage door, blinds, door or general contact sensor.

At the moment, the Aqara app is not compatible with the P2 sensor, but firmware updates can be performed through the Apple Home app for Matter.
