Homey Launches Homey Energy Dongle
Homey is now introducing new energy management feature and its latest hardware novelty: the Homey Energy Dongle. Together with an updated software, Homey turns into a complete energy management system. The dongle is available for pre-order already today for 39 euros and is planned to be delivered in March 2025. The new energy tab in the Homey app has been launched as public beta.
Homey Energy Dongle is a device that connects to the P1 port on European smart electricity meters. It streams data on energy consumption and energy production in real time to Homey. The device supports reporting electricity, gas and in some cases water consumption via the P1 standard. The dongle works both locally with Homey Pro and via the Homey Cloud cloud service, which is available in both free and premium versions. This means that users can use the dongle without having to invest in additional Homey hardware.
For ease of connection, the dongle comes with a built-in P1 splitter. This allows the simultaneous use of other devices such as charging boxes with load balancing, photovoltaic integration or additional P1 dongles without additional adapters.
New energy tab with smart overview
In conjunction with the launch of the dongle, Homey is introducing a new energy tab in its app. Available as a public beta, the feature offers users an overview of their energy consumption via clear and easy-to-read graphs. The tab provides the ability to monitor electricity, gas and water in real time, as well as analyze historical data over days, weeks, months or years.
The new energy tab also supports monitoring photovoltaic production, electric car charging and the energy balance between the home and the grid. Users can plug in smart batteries for a complete energy picture and use the “Top Consumers” feature to identify which devices draw the most energy.
Adaptation for dynamic electricity prices
Another interesting novelty is the possibility of entering electricity prices in the app to get a clearer picture of energy costs. In the first quarter of 2025, support for the import of dynamic electricity tariffs will be launched, which will make it possible to view real-time prices and plan energy consumption based on these. For example, users can automate the charging of electric cars when prices are at their lowest or reduce usage during expensive hours using Homey Flow and Avantische Flow.
Compatibility and Availability
Homey Energy Dongle and the new energy tab are compatible with Homey Pro (Early 2023) and Homey Cloud. The dongle can be powered directly from newer electricity meters (DSMR version 5 and later) or via USB-C for older meters. A USB-A to USB-C cable for power supply is included, but AC adapter is sold separately.
Pre-orders are open today, and the new energy tab can already be tested in the beta version of the Homey app.
