Create routines using Google's AI
Google Home has introduced a new feature that will make it easier than ever to create custom routines using artificial intelligence. With the new “Help Me Write” generative AI feature, you can create customized Google Home routines in the script editor.
When creating routines with Google Home, you might want to add extra niceties, like getting your lights on as soon as you get out of bed or getting a notification via your smart speaker when your camera detects a package delivery. To make this possible, Google has recently launched a script editor that allows you to write and edit code to create more specific and customized automations for your home.
Those with coding skills have already had the opportunity to be creative with their advanced automations, and soon even more of us will be able to try it out. Google is now introducing “help me write,” a new experimental feature in the script editor that makes it easier to create advanced automations, even if you have little coding experience.
“Help me script” will be available later this year as a public beta and will give you a starting point to code more personalized automations. When you log into your Google Home account on Google Home for the web and open the script editor, you simply describe what you want to happen in natural language, like “If my outdoor camera sees someone after dark break in, turn on the porch light and make an announcement” or “When the fire alarm goes off, flash all the lights in the house and announce an emergency over the speakers”. Then, using generative AI, “Help Me Write” will generate the code for you. You can then easily copy, paste and activate the code in the script editor. If you need it, you can always change the code later.
Because “Help Me Write” is driven by a large language model, it is constantly learning and improving, allowing it to generate more accurate and personalized scripts with each passing day.
