Matter 1.3 - Presented Specification

On May 8, 2024, the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) announced the latest update to Matter, version 1.3, which is now available for product developers and platforms. This new version introduces improvements such as expanded functionality for kitchen and laundry equipment, improving the user experience in home entertainment systems, and improving energy and water management in smart homes. The new specification also enables better interaction between smart home devices and user interfaces on screens.

Among the new features in Matter 1.3 is support for energy management devices that allow users to monitor and manage their energy consumption in real time. This includes detailed reports on power consumption, voltage and current, which can help save money and reduce carbon footprint.

Another key feature is support for electric vehicle charging equipment, giving users the ability to control the charging process to optimize costs and reduce environmental impact. In addition, Matter 1.3 includes support for new types of appliances such as microwaves, ovens and hotplates, increasing the comfort and efficiency of everyday life.

The new specification also introduces water management features such as leak and freeze detectors, rain sensors and controllable water valves, giving homeowners better control and protection over water use in and around their homes.

We will have to wait and then when the first devices with 1.3 become available but we should see something during this year.
