Samsung Soundbar is now also a SmartThings Hub
Samsung has announced that one of its premium soundbars, the HW-Q900C, released earlier this year, will receive a software update that will allow it to be used as a SmartThings hub. This is the first of several soundbars and TVs that will get smart home features included in the device, the company announced at its Samsung Developer Conference held recently.
The HW-Q900C, first revealed at CES 2023, is being upgraded to work with Samsung SmartThings' Hub Everywhere program, according to The Verge. Older and newer TVs will be upgraded to serve as hubs to control various protocols such as Matter, Thread and Zigbee.
Samsung has also revamped its developer tools by introducing a new developer portal and smart home APIs to make it easier for product manufacturers to integrate SmartThings into their apps. In addition, the Map View UI used on SmartThings-enabled TVs to control home networks will come to smartphones.
As more devices launch that are compatible with Matter, the IoT format that Samsung has helped develop, more of the company's devices will be able to connect and network with smart home devices.
