Withings Body Scan is not an ordinary personal scale -- it's an advanced health product that combines elegant design with comprehensive features to analyze your body composition, cardiovascular health, and even nerve health. But does it live up to its promise? We have been testing the scale for a couple of weeks and here is our assessment.

4.0
Easy installation and stylish design
Measures an impressive array of health parameters
Good integration with third-party apps
Questionable accuracy on some metrics
Overwhelming amount of data for new users

Installation and first impressions

Getting started with Withings Body Scan is surprisingly easy. Installation takes place via Withings app which automatically finds the wave without complicated mating processes. But despite the fact that the app is user-friendly, the amount of information can feel overwhelming to a new user. It takes a certain amount of time to understand and take advantage of all the functions of the wave, so patience is important.

The scale feels luxurious and its stylish design makes it fit into most bathrooms. It is available in black and white, which provides options for different preferences.

Metrics — impressive but are they reliable?

One of Body Scan's greatest strengths is its ability to measure more than just your weight. It records body fat, muscle mass, water percentage, visceral fat, cardiovascular health and even nerve health. But accuracy is a weak point. During the test period, for example, the scales showed that a normal body of 72 kg had only 8 kg of fat, which feels doubtful. This makes it difficult to fully trust the metrics, especially for parameters that are difficult to verify.

App and user experience

The Withings app is well-designed and offers a huge amount of data, but it takes time to familiarize yourself with. For a product like this, where tips and analytics are part of the experience, Withings has done a great job of presenting complex measurements in an educational way.

Syncing with third-party apps like Apple Health works fine overall, but there are some flaws. For example, incorrect measurements from Apple Health did not disappear, despite being deleted in the Withings app. Whether this is due to Withings or Apple is hard to say.

Why settle for just one wave?

Withings not only makes scales but also smartwatches and other types of measuring instruments. We recently wrote a ScanWatch Nova review. One of the best looking smartwatches on the market that also measures steps, exercise, heartbeat, sleep, etc. If you complete this, you get a more comprehensive picture of your health in one app.

Read more about Withings App and its premium features that we cover in ScanWatch Nova review:

The app consists of three tabs, Home, Measure and Achieve. Under Home you will find your latest measurements and your reminders for different prompts. Under Measure you will find your measurements from the last week compiled and under Achieve you will find programs that you can sign up for, as well as some recipes, articles and workouts.

Most programs are under Withing+, a premium service that costs SEK 1,295 per year or SEK 129 per month. This subscription includes the “Helth Improvement Scoore” to help you keep better track of your health over time, daily challenges and exclusive content, as well as advanced health insights to help you understand how your data and actions impact each other.

Battery life and durability

Battery life has not been an issue during the testing period. The scale has not yet needed to be recharged, which is a plus, but a longer testing period is required to provide a final judgement. The battery life should last up to one year and be charged using USB-C.

Summarized

If you are a person who likes data and challenges and constantly strives to feel better and improve your values, this wave is perfect for you. Do you complete the wave with additional products from Withings This will give you added value in the app. The price can be perceived high for a wave but then it should be remembered that this is not just a wave, there by the name Body Scan. Withings+ can be valuable for those who are fully invested but will be quite expensive in the long run.
