Since the launch of Matter 1.0 just over a year ago, we have seen significant growth. There have been reported over 24,600 downloads of the specification, 1,214 certifications, and an increase of nearly 24% in companies that have joined.

The new device types introduced in Matter 1.2 include:

  • Refrigerators: In addition to basic temperature control, this category also applies to other devices such as freezers and wine coolers.
  • Room climate systems: Support for stand-alone air conditioners.
  • dishwashers: Basic functions and warnings, for example for water supply and drainage errors.
  • Washing machines: Notifications about the wash cycle.
  • Robot Vacuum Cleaner: Support for various cleaning modes and status reports.
  • Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm: Support for notifications, sound and light signals.
  • Air Quality Sensors: Measurement of various air quality parameters.
  • Air Purifier: Combination of air quality sensors and fan function.
  • Fans: Several new features and movement patterns.

In addition to these new device types, there will also be general improvements in the specification, SDK, testing tools and certification program.

Matter 1.2 also marks a significant step forward in testing and certification, which will help companies more quickly launch products to market.

With Matter 1.2 available to device and app manufacturers worldwide, work on Matter continues. As we approach the holiday season, we expect to see more products on retail shelves thanks to Matter marketing and education initiatives.

Looking ahead to 2024, Matter will continue to grow in the smart home sector and the IoT ecosystem. New products will be launched and we can expect at least two new updates next year.
