Nimly Touch Pro Black - Well-built Scandinavian lock with fingerprint reader

4.1

One of the later additions for smart locks is Nimly formerly called Easyaccess. The Norwegian company has entered the Swedish market and impresses with its feature-packed smart locks specially developed and designed for the Scandinavian conditions.

Nimly supplies smart locks with complete lock housings for the Scandinavian market. Among this category, the competition is not huge in Sweden, so we are especially happy to see an addition to the smart locks market like this. Nimly Touch Pro Black is a stylish lock in high quality. An added plus for the smaller outdoor section!

Since we have quite high requirements for locks in Sweden, it also requires some of the lock manufacturers. Nimly Touch Pro Black therefore also keeps the SSF 3522 Class 3 recommended by the insurance companies.

There are many ways to open your lock

fingerprinting

Biometric technologies for accessing technical equipment and digital products have increased exponentially in the last decade. It is a fast and reliable way to identify yourself. It is perfect for smart locks as you can quickly hold your finger against your lock to unlock your door. Today, not many smart locks use fingerprint readers, so it's extra fun to see this feature on Nimly Touch Pro Black. Don't expect the same performance as on the iPhone, for example. You can register up to 199 different fingerprints, so that's good enough for the whole family.

App and automation

Nimly Touch Pro Black is ready for connection to your smart home. To get access to all the extra features that allow you to easily automate your lock, you need to purchase a gateways and a Zigbee module from Nimly. At the time of writing these costs SEK 1350 and SEK 599. You install the module relatively easily yourself in the prepared place of your lock. Nimly's gateway needs power and wired internet and be located near your lock. After installation, the gateway works without an ethernet cable. If you plan to connect your lock directly to your smart home system then you only need the ZigBee module.

After you have prepared the lock for connection, you can Nimly's app control your lock. For additional functionality and automation, Nimly now supports third-party vendors such as Safe4, Keyfree, Homely, Futurehome and Homey.

Remember not to register anything manually if you plan to use the ZigBee module as these will not be included with the app. If you have already done this, then it is best to reset the lock first.

Locking washer

Your lock is accompanied by three so-called lock tags that use RFID (Radio-frequency identification) technology. It is simply a small tray that you attach to e.g. the keychain and hold it against the lock to open. Not all manufacturers send these for free so we thank you for that. It is possible to register up to 999 different lock washers.

Do you want to buy more key tags At the time of writing, they cost 69 kr/pc.

Code - touchpanel

With the touch panel on the outside of the lock, you can easily open your door with codes. It is also with this that you set the functions of the lock manually. It is possible to register up to 999 different codes. There are clear instructions on Nimly's YouTube page but it can be quite traditional to make various settings to the lock by pressing various combinations to activate and deactivate functions.

Emergency key

The lock comes with three emergency keys, so if your lock stops working or runs out of batteries, you can always use these as with a regular lock.

Administering

The registration of codes, key tags and fingerprints is done using the touch panel on the outside of the lock or via the app. It can get quite tricky and take some time to do this manually on the lock's touch panel so if you're going to use Nimly's gateway it's best to take care of all this via their app. Do this before you have registered anything manually via the lock. In the app, you can see the current lock status, see who opened the lock and when, and assign time-limited access for people outside the family.

On Nimly's Own YouTube Channel are there instructional videos in English on how to administer your lock manually.

Automatic locking

When you close the door, there is a function for the lock to lock automatically. You can always open the lock from the inside by pulling down the handle. So nothing else is required, which is good if, for example, it starts to burn and a child needs to get out. The code panel allows you to lock the lock from the inside. Then it takes code to open the door.

Weather and wind

The lock has IP class 65 which means it can withstand between - 35 °C to 40 °C, fine grained dust and rain. So you don't have to worry about our weather conditions.

Installazione

It comes with instructions on how to install the lock, not as clear as an IKEA instruction but manageable. Even if you have no previous experience installing a lock like this with your own lock house, it should go relatively smoothly. We ourselves had no major problems with the installation. If you have a left or right hung door it doesn't matter then you can mount the lock both ways. It would have been nice to have an installation video created by Nimly to more easily follow the steps but there are some on Youtube created by other users that can be rewarding.

Batteries

The lock is powered by four AA batteries and should last about a year. Of course, battery life depends on how often you use your lock. The batteries are easily installed by lifting the battery compartment on the inside and are easy to access. If the batteries run out, three emergency keys are included in the package. Something we would have liked is to be able to supply the lock with power from the outside in case one would not have access to your emergency keys.

Conclusion

Nimly Touch Pro Black remains in one of our doors, simply because the lock meets our requirements and works with our smart home system. Overall, it is a well-built lock with many features. The design combined with this makes us impressed and satisfied. Something we lack a clearer instruction manual. There is always potential for improvement, but we believe and hope that Nimly will continue to work on the development and continue to deliver smart locks in high quality.
